~ The St. Thomas Source, U.S. Virgin Islands
Team, Hurricane Irma and Maria devastated the Virgin Islands in September of 2017.
It became abundantly clear that our territory and other disaster impacted areas needed federal support to rebuild lives, communities, and businesses as quickly as possible.
When disaster strikes, disruption happens quickly, and the federal response needs to match the urgency the victims feel. Which is why, along with my colleague who understands the impact of disasters, Representative Garret Graves of Louisiana, we introduced the Expediting Disaster Recovery Act, a bipartisan bill aimed at expediting FEMA aid after a major disaster.
I am pleased to announce that the bill advanced from committee, and is making its way through the House, while we work on a companion bill for consideration in the Senate.
Folks, these are common sense solutions for issues that affect all Americans. As our climate continues to change, we need to make sure we are prepared and moving quickly to help those most affected. The Democratic Party understands this urgency, and that’s why it’s important we hold on to our majorities this November. The party in charge controls committees, and that allows us to prioritize urgent matters the other side may not. Will you defend our majorities and help us expedite important bills by making a contribution today?
