Trafficking doesn’t occur in a vacuum. Systematic oppression makes people vulnerable. To end trafficking, we have to dismantle systems of oppression. Raising awareness or learning red flags is doomed to fail when we leave people with no alternatives to exploitation. We have to be honest about the real causes of trafficking and do the hard work of combating them.
