John,
Last week, in the dead of the night, Republican lawmakers in Pennsylvania snuck an anti-abortion constitutional amendment through its first phase of legislative approval.
And when they brought it to the House floor for a vote, and I took the podium to push back against their claims that it wouldn’t change a thing about abortion laws in our state — they turned off my microphone.
You can watch the moment here.

I was in the midst of speaking truth to power, informing voters of the ramifications of the proposed constitutional amendment and calling out the hypocrisy underpinning Republicans’ newfound enthusiasm to let voters decide the fate of abortion rights after abetting efforts to overturn the 2020 election, when they decided to try and silence me.
For the last 30 years, Republicans have controlled the Pennsylvania state legislature, clinging to power through a timeline of deflections, half-truths, and outright lies. Now they’re trying to clear a path to erode abortion rights in our commonwealth and make it harder for Black and brown communities like mine to vote.
With the U.S. Supreme Court’s recent decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, abortion rights now hinge on our governors, state legislatures, and State Supreme Courts.
But they can’t shut all of us up. Will you join me in helping to elect working champions at every level of government who will fight for abortion rights by making a contribution to the Working Families Party?
Election after election, WFP has been turning movement energy into real electoral and legislative power — committing its resources to helping progressive candidates win up and down the ballot in communities across our Commonwealth and across the nation.
Point-blank, the path to protecting abortion access, keeping and expanding our slim majority in Congress, and building progressive power runs straight through Pennsylvania and other states like ours.
But with help from our friends at the Working Families Party, we’re building power from the ground up to win the future we deserve. John, will you join me in making a contribution to the Working Families Party and help flip our majority in Pennsylvania?
In solidarity,
Malcolm Kenyatta
Pennsylvania State Representative
