Today, the House of Representatives is taking up the National Defense Authorization Act, the annual bill that covers military and war policy. They are voting on amendments on Pentagon spending, war powers, sanctions, and other critical issues that will affect people around the globe.
A majority of U.S. adults support cutting Pentagon spending and reinvesting those funds in programs that benefit everyone. That includes pandemic recovery, health care, and jobs. Today Congress must do what’s right and support amendments that:
Cut Pentagon spending by tens of billions of dollars.
End the 1991 and 2002 authorizations for military force against Iraq.
Limit the program that provides local police departments with military weapons and gear.
Require a report on the humanitarian impacts of U.S. sanctions.
Remove the prohibition on reducing the number of ICBM. nuclear missiles in the U.S.
