Hi – I’m Diana Pliego, a policy associate at NILC, an immigrant rights activist, and a DACA recipient.
I’m reaching out to invite you to join me as I take over HipLatina’s Instagram today at 2:00 PM ET / 11:00 AM PT! I’ll be sharing all about DACA — where it stands, how it has impacted my life, and what we need Congress to do to permanently protect immigrant youth in this country.
This topic is particularly close to my heart not only because of the work I do at NILC, but also because DACA changed my life. DACA allowed me to walk through doors that I never imagined possible. I also know what it’s like to live with the uncertainty of temporary protection and to experience the constant political attacks on immigrant youth and our loved ones.
Join my takeover on HipLatina’s Instagram page today at 2:00 PM ET to learn more about DACA and hear my personal story. You can find the account at @Hip_Latina.
I became an immigrant rights activist when I learned that I don’t have to just watch policy decisions about my life get made — I can actually do something to make them happen. It was my life as a DACA recipient that led me to want to create change, and the great thing about creating change is that everyone can do it.
When I reflect on the work of the movement that fought for and won DACA, it’s clear that DACA was born out of hope turned to action. And now, more than ever, it is urgent that we all act to demand that our members of Congress permanently protect immigrant youth. Because we are here to stay.
I can’t wait to share my story on HipLatina’s Instagram. “See” you there!
Sincerely,
Diana Pliego
