Dear Friends of 5 Gyres,

It's Plastic Free July, and the time to take action is NOW! This newsletter is dedicated to ways you can take part this month -- and beyond. From participating in community science to swapping single-use plastic for reusables, there are easy ways we can all make a change.

Tell us how you're participating in Plastic Free July by tagging @5gyres ([link removed]) on social media. We love to see you in action!

Help us collect data that will be used to support efforts to ban the sale of single-use plastic in national parks. Plus, everyone who takes part will be entered to win Jack Johnson tickets and a national parks annual pass!

California recently passed what is being heralded as the nation’s toughest plastic reduction bill. While The Plastic Pollution Reduction & Recycling Act sounds perfect at first glance, there’s more than meets the eye. Environmental organizations across California, all with a similar mission to reduce plastic pollution, were divided on SB 54 - some in support, some in opposition, and some, like 5 Gyres, remaining neutral. Read our latest newsroom article ([link removed]) to understand this controversial new bill.
