Friend,

My name is Nancy Dent, a communications officer at the IRC. You may remember me from when I reported to you live as the IRC Emergency Response team was preparing to assist people who fled Ukraine.

Today, I'm personally reaching out with an urgent update about children facing a dire hunger crisis in Afghanistan which has just been exacerbated by the deadliest earthquake in 20 years. And to ask for your assistance by making a 3X-matched gift for children and their families in Afghanistan and around the world.

Here's a rundown of what our Afghanistan team is currently seeing on the ground: (Also, my colleagues Samira and Kellie, who recently spent time in Afghanistan meeting our clients, just shared some pictures with me, to forward to you with my update. See more below.)
Nearly 23 million Afghan children are facing acute hunger, and 3.5 million children are in need of malnutrition support.
After the country faced political turmoil last year, that heartbreaking number has been growing higher and higher ever since.
After last month's earthquake, over 1,000 lives have been lost with nearly 1,800 homes destroyed, and hundreds of children still have not been reunited with their families.
This is why I'm writing to you at this very moment. Will you please make an urgent donation to help us support these children and their families with the malnutrition treatment they need in Afghanistan and beyond? My team made a personalized link for you to make a 3X-matched gift here: [link removed]

Friend, I wouldn't say it if it weren't true: The current situation for Afghan children is grim.

Our teams recently spoke with one Afghan mother, Mosina, who shared how dire the situation is for her own family, and how making a gift right now could help:
We live in a bad financial condition. Things are expensive and we can't have access to them, with not enough food & money. I mean, we have nothing. If you could help us with the food packages, we will be more than happy.

Mosina is just one of countless mothers who are affected by this desperate situation.

My heart aches for the millions of Afghan children going hungry in this truly devastating and grim situation. But you, Friend, can help us reach them.

Friend, I don't know what will happen next for these children and their families. But what I do know is that with your help, we can be there for them just as we have been there for families facing crisis after crisis in this country for more than 30 years. I'll be sure to update you on the situation as it unfolds. You can be confident in knowing that we will be here for the long-haul, and will stay as long as we're needed.

Thank you for your continued compassion, and I speak on behalf of all our emergency response teams that we are grateful to have dedicated people like you supporting the IRC.

My colleague Kellie took these photos of an IRC health volunteer showing mothers in her community about how to prevent malnutrition and other diseases.

And Samira sent over these photos of IRC staff loading up trucks in Helmand province to send urgently needed supplies, including food and hygiene equipment, to families impacted by the recent earthquake.
