CHAPTER SPOTLIGHT
PEAK Chapters Explore Saying No With Care
Two chapters recently hosted events exploring options for one of the hardest parts of grantmaking: denying an organization funding. PEAK Southeast discussed how to say no in a way that makes your organization a door-opener rather than a gatekeeper. They created a robust list of sample messages that showcase a variety of ways to explain when organizations aren’t a good match. Check them out and feel free to add your own template!
You can also watch a panel hosted by PEAK Washington, DC that explores how the American Nurses Foundation handles rejections and the challenges they face when trying to offer support to applicants that were denied funding. PEAK chapters are hosting conversations to help navigate difficult situations all the time. Be sure to check our events page so you can join the next discussion. Kudos to PEAK Greater Washington, DC and PEAK Southeast for leading the way!

PEAK in Community
The latest news about our sector partnerships and how PEAK is advocating for more equitable grantmaking practices at conferences, convenings, and community conversations.
Satonya Fair and Bainum Family Foundation President and CEO David Daniels facilitated “The People of the Global Majority,” a gathering of foundation and nonprofit professionals for the Washington Regional Association of Grantmakers (WRAG). The goal is to create deeper peer connections among People of Color leading institutions in the DC community. The event was hosted in partnership with ABFE, Greater Washington Community Foundation, and the Meyer Foundation.
Satonya also participated in the Council on Foundations Career Pathways Colloquium for the Spring 2022 cohort. As a graduate of the program, Satonya has stayed deeply engaged with the staff and cohort members over the years serving as a mentor and where needed.
