When I started serving Colorado, folks called me the “accidental senator” — and I won my last midterm election race by just 1.7%.

Friday is our first mid-month fundraising deadline of the general election. This race is going to be tough — that’s why it’s critical that we meet every fundraising goal between now and November.

Right now, we’re experiencing the summer slump. This is typical of grassroots campaigns like ours that are powered by supporters who chip in $5 or $10 to emails like this one, not corporate PACs or federal lobbyists. We knew to expect it as people enjoy their summers and get outdoors.

But at any moment, my opponent could write out a big check to his campaign or ask the National GOP to tap into their $200 million-plus war chest, so we can’t afford to take our foot off the gas.

So I’m counting on 500 grassroots donors to pitch in before Friday’s mid-month fundraising deadline.
