Ancient sequoia trees have endured centuries of fires,
John.

But every single year the summers are longer and hotter, and the wildfires
that threaten them get worse.

More than 3,600 giant sequoia trees burned down in California last year.
The year before, 10,000 of the giants — up to 14 percent of the world's
total — were destroyed. And right now even more sequoias are being
threatened by spreading wildfires.^1

Enough is enough,
John. It's time the media and the
world hold the fossil fuel industry accountable. That starts with us
taking action together today,
John:

Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric
Administration (NOAA) to rename climate disasters after the fossil fuel
companies that are causing them?

There is no denying the link between fossil fuels and climate disasters.
And it's not only affecting the sequoias in California:

* Japan is enduring one of its worst heat waves on record, with
thousands of people hospitalized.

* In Italy, downtown Rome hit its highest temperature on record, at 105
degrees Fahrenheit.

* A glacier in northern Italy collapsed, crushing at least nine hikers
in an avalanche.

* Even northern Norway, in the Arctic Circle, hit record high
temperatures this week.

And if that's not bad enough, there were Jello-green skies over South
Dakota as a derecho — defined as a powerful wind storm extending more than
240 miles — blew across the Plains.^2

It is more important now than ever before that the media, the public, and
our politicians hold the fossil fuel industry accountable for causing this
devastation.

climate disasters after fossil fuel companies.

Thank you for adding your name today. Stay safe out there.
