Supreme Court rules Biden administration can end Remain in Mexico border policy

We welcome the Supreme Court ruling that the Biden administration can end the Remain in Mexico program and that nothing in U.S. immigration law requires that asylum seekers be forced to remain in Mexico. Remain in Mexico is the border policy that has forced more than 75,000 asylum seekers to wait in dangerous conditions in Mexico while their claims are pending in U.S. immigration courts. Read NIJC's statement on this Supreme Court decision.

Despite Supreme Court rulings, we must protect immigrants' health, safety, and well being

In the wake of the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, NIJC firmly stands with other members of Chicago's Gender-based Violence Implementation Task Force to defend the rights, dignity, and health of survivors and of all people who can become pregnant. Read the task force's statement responding to the Supreme Court's ruling.

NIJC joined 80 partner organizations and gathered at the Supreme Court to strongly declare that all people deserve to be #SafeNotStranded. We demanded that the justices put our humanity first and keep people seeking asylum safe, ensure autonomy over our bodies, protect us from gun violence, and ensure a healthy environment. Together, we continue to fight for justice.

As we witnessed in the tragedy in San Antonio, immigration policies designed to deter people are deadly. Read and share our statement from NIJC's Lisa Koop about the preventable loss of life in San Antonio.

NIJC recently released government documents revealing the Biden administration embraces intentionally cruel deterrence policies that are inhumane and ineffective. Read more on NIJC's blog.
