ACTION SPOTLIGHT

Help Ban the Transportation of Explosive Liquefied Natural Gas by Rail!

Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) is incredibly dangerous — it can lead to uncontrollable explosions and fires so hot they burn people up to a mile away. Despite the incredible risks to the community, a reckless Trump-era decision prioritized the interests of gas companies and rolled back a ban on transporting LNG by rail.

The dangers of LNG aren't limited to explosions. The extraction, transportation, and burning of this gas releases large amounts of methane — a powerful driver of the climate crisis.

Fortunately, the Department of Transportation is reviewing its rule about transporting LNG by rail — so we need you to tell Secretary Pete Buttigieg to protect YOU, not gas industry profits.

CAMPAIGN UPDATE

Courtroom Victory: This Toxic Herbicide Could Be On Its Way Out

Siding with NRDC and our partners, a federal appeals court has struck down major parts of the U.S. EPA's decision to allow continued, widespread use of glyphosate, a toxic herbicide commonly known as RoundUp.

This important victory for people and the environment forces EPA to re-assess the harms of glyphosate and may result in significant restrictions on its use.

The court found that EPA's conclusion that glyphosate "is not likely to be carcinogenic" was unsupported. It also found that EPA violated the Endangered Species Act by issuing its decision without first analyzing the impacts of glyphosate on imperiled species, notably monarch butterflies. Lastly, the Court directed EPA to issue a new analysis of glyphosate's impacts on the environment, including monarch butterflies, later this year.

But our fight is not over. EPA now has to go back and redo major parts of its analysis of this harmful chemical. EPA's revised analysis might require serious restrictions on how, where, and when glyphosate can be used. NRDC stands ready to ensure that happens.
