Today’s Jan. 6th committee hearing revealed further evidence that Trump and his cronies knew that they didn’t have evidence of widespread voter fraud, but they continued peddling their dangerous lies in their last-ditch effort to keep Trump in office. Here’s what we now know:

Trump was explicitly warned about possible violence from the crowd that included members of extremist groups like the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers – yet he continued to encourage them to march on the Capitol.
Trump and his staffers directly pressured state officials to reverse the election outcome – even asking state officials to “find” thousands of votes for Trump.
In an email to Mark Meadows, Giuliani’s chief investigator wrote: “We can do all the investigations we want later, but if the President plans on winning, it’s the legislators that have to be moved.”

Trump is well aware of the importance of state legislatures. It’s why he targeted state legislators in 2020, and it’s why he’s plotting to stock state legislatures with his allies this November.

Trump may be willing to do anything to get back in the White House – even inciting an insurrection. So it stands to reason that he’ll be just as desperate in his attempts to build power in state legislatures ahead of his next presidential run.
