SCJ Seeks to Preserve Relationship with SMU
On December 4 the South Central Jurisdictional Conference of The United Methodist Church filed an Original Petition in Dallas County, Texas, naming Southern Methodist University (“SMU”) as a defendant. By this lawsuit, the South Central Jurisdictional Conference seeks to preserve a 100-year relationship that it or its predecessors have held with SMU. The lawsuit, authorized by the South Central Jurisdiction Mission Council, seeks declaratory relief that recent actions taken by the Board of Trustees of SMU are void and unauthorized, and that the South Central Jurisdictional Conference retains all of its rights and its longstanding and permanent relationship with SMU, as well as its beneficial interests in the assets of SMU.
