Dear Friend,
We are deep into primary season and your continued support is helping shape the 118th Congress into the most pro-Israel one yet. We’ve already had major successes – like in Ohio with Congresswoman Shontel Brown’s big victory, Nevada with Congresswoman Dina Titus’ significant win, and Texas with Representative Henry Cuellar – and are gearing up for more key races across the country in the coming weeks. Those races include MI-11 (which, as I wrote about in an Algemeiner opinion piece, serves as a primer between a truly pro-Israel candidate supported by the mainstream pro-Israel community, and a J Street-backed opponent who believes the best way to “support” Israel is to publicly chastise and misplace blame on the Jewish state), MI-12, and MD-04, all of which we expand upon below.
A strong, pro-Israel majority in Congress hinges on us helping strong supporters of the U.S.-Israel relationship win not only their primaries, but also their general elections this fall – and we’re counting on your continued support to do just that. Together, we can ensure that the U.S.-Israel relationship remains an issue with broad, bipartisan consensus on the Hill. Best, Jeff |
READ: The Algemeiner: In Michigan’s 11th District, Who Is Best for Israel? – “The Democratic primary in Michigan’s redrawn 11th Congressional district is one of the most highly visible this cycle. Not only does it pit two Democratic incumbent members of Congress — Haley Stevens and Andy Levin — against each other, but it also is shaping up to be a ‘showdown’ between J Street and the mainstream pro-Israel community. For the more than 40,000 Jewish Americans estimated to live in this new district, US-Israel relations have become a significant policy issue that starkly divides the two leading candidates. At stake are two differing approaches to America’s relationship with Israel.” – READ MORE from PIA’s Executive Director Jeff Mendelsohn.

With 20 states to go, we are more than halfway through primary season, and Pro-Israel America continues to notch wins with our 70+ endorsed congressional candidates this cycle. This includes our more than 30 designated “key races” which include pro-Israel incumbents facing competitive primaries and general elections as well as races between pro-Israel champions and anti-Israel opponents.

RECENT PIA “KEY RACE” VICTORIES
CA-40: Congresswoman Young Kim advanced to the general election – in what is expected to be one of the most competitive races this fall – defeating a primary opponent who had made wildly antisemitic statements and called for the U.S. to ‘rein in’ critical foreign aid to our greatest ally in the Middle East.
OH-11: Congresswoman Shontel Brown was victorious in a primary rematch against a candidate who vowed to join “the Squad” if elected. The U.S.-Israel relationship became a key flashpoint between the two leading Democratic primary candidates in Ohio’s 11th congressional district, and Brown’s victory proves once again that support for the U.S.-Israel relationship is not only good policy, but good politics.
NV-01: Congresswoman Dina Titus soundly defeated her pro-BDS primary opponent who had aligned herself with the “anti-Israel caucus” in Congress by over 60 points. Since elected to the House in 2013, Titus has proven to be a strong pro-Israel representative, supporting U.S. security assistance to Israel and cosponsoring numerous bills that advance our nations’ critical relationship. TX-28: Congressman Henry Cuellar – a longstanding supporter of the U.S.-Israel alliance during his nearly two decades of service in the House – re-defeated an opponent (the same opponent who challenged him in 2020) who had aligned herself with some of the loudest anti-Israel voices in Congress. |
UPCOMING PIA PRIMARIES TO WATCH
MD-04: We recently hosted PIA-endorsed candidate Glenn Ivey, who will soon face off against former Rep. Donna Edwards in the MD-04 Democratic primary. Former Rep. Edwards has repeatedly failed to advance policies that would strengthen the U.S.-Israel relationship, while Ivey has committed to being a strong supporter of the U.S.-Israel relationship, combatting antisemitism in the US and around the world, and denouncing the dangerous BDS movement.
MI-11: Rep. Haley Stevens is facing Rep. Andy Levin, in a rare incumbent-on-incumbent race. In my latest Algemeiner piece, I explain why Rep. Haley Stevens is the clear choice for MI-11 – she is a true, ardent supporter of the U.S.-Israel relationship who is quick to defend Israel when it is under attack, while Levin often misplaces blame towards Israel.
MI-12: Elsewhere in Michigan, we are also intensely focused on the MI-12 race where PIA-endorsed Janice Winfrey, who currently serves as Detroit City Clerk, faces one of the most anti-Israel voices in Congress Rep. Rashida Tlaib. Just this month Tlaib came out against Israel joining the Visa Waiver Program, a move that hurts Jews and Arabs alike. J Street is spending $100,000 on digital ads supporting Edwards that a J Street spokesperson told JI have not yet gone live. Pro-Israel America and DMFI have also lent their support to Ivey, and AIPAC’s PAC has directed at least $160,000 in donations to him.” [READ MORE]

ICYMI: Glenn Ivey (D) (MD-04) – PIA Endorsed Candidate for Congress
Glenn Ivey joined PIA Executive Director Jeff Mendelsohn on Wednesday, June 22nd for an intimate members-only conversation. During the discussion, Ivey expressed strong support for the U.S.-Israel relationship, opposed the BDS movement, reiterated Israel’s right to self-defense, and discussed his competitive upcoming primary race in Maryland’s 4th congressional district against a former congresswoman who had repeatedly failed to stand firmly with Israel.
