Dear friend,
Last Thursday, Senate Republicans voted on a constitutional amendment to ban abortion at 10:30 p.m. And then, House Republicans did the same thing the very next night.
Under the veil of night, Republicans used bad faith and cowardly tactics to pass extreme anti-choice legislation that will jeopardize the lives of countless women and patients across the state. Senate Bill No. 106, which was passed both chambers and cannot be vetoed by the Governor, says that there is no constitutional right to an abortion in Pennsylvania.
As a state senator, I am supposed to be able to help protect all Pennsylvanians, including to protect their right to make their own choices regarding their health and their lives. That’s why when our majority party resorts to legislative sneak attacks to subvert the real demands of their constituents, I won’t stand by and watch.
My pro-choice colleagues and I are ready to fight with everything we have to stop this dangerous constitutional amendment from becoming a reality for Pennsylvanians. But in truth, this isn’t a battle we can fight alone.
I have announced legislation to codify Roe v. Wade into state law, but as a member of the minority party, I know that bill won’t even get a hearing. The only way to bring an end to these attacks on our fundamental rights is to elect a pro-choice state legislature, including defending my seat in the Pennsylvania Senate. Will you take a stand against the Pennsylvania GOP’s late night ambush and chip in so we can elect a pro-choice Senate this November?

Thank you, friend. We’re in this fight — together.
