As a (proud) minivan driver, Katie knows how much the price of gas affects working people.
In May, Katie introduced legislation that would lower gas prices by making it illegal for Big Oil companies to price gouge consumers. Her bill passed in the House, but we need it to pass in the Senate in order for it to become law. Nearly two months later and this legislation is still stalled.
The high cost of gas is price gouging and not just inflation because Big Oil is raising gas prices disproportionately higher than the cost of a barrel of oil. Companies like Shell are reporting more than nine billion in profits in a single quarter, three times more than what they made in that time period a year ago.
Right now, the federal government doesn't have the ability to investigate price gouging, so these powerful corporations are left unchecked. Katie’s bill will hold these greedy corporations accountable.
