Dear ,
Last month, Governor Newsom signed a historic State budget — making key investments to help Angelenos address rising costs and help tackle the State and City’s most pressing challenges.
Here are some of the exciting investments for Angelenos:
* $9.5 billion in direct tax refunds to help with rising costs of gas and groceries. Click here ([link removed]) to estimate how much your family will be eligible for.
* $144 million for the City of Los Angeles to address homelessness and additional funding for encampment resolution grants and Project Homekey, allowing us flexibility to purchase additional hotels and motels for our unhoused neighbors.
* $205 million in reproductive health investments to ensure California continues to lead in protecting reproductive freedom.
* Nearly $2 billion in additional funding for the State's rental assistance program to help thousands of Californians pay back rent accrued during the pandemic.
* $1.4 billion in assistance for those behind on their electric and water bills.
* An expansion of Medi-Cal to include all income-eligible Californians, regardless of immigration status, by January 1, 2024.
* $1.83 billion investment in Southern California transit projects in the next year and an additional $1 billion specifically for active transportation projects including bike lanes and pedestrian improvements.
* $1.2 billion over two years for freight-related infrastructure at our ports, and an additional $110 million for a workforce development center in San Pedro Bay, both of which will help us build a more reliable supply chain.
Communities throughout Los Angeles will benefit from these direct state investments in our neighborhoods:
* $10 million for the Jefferson Boulevard Affordable Housing and Park Project.
* $7 million for rehabilitation and stormwater management at Hollenbeck Park Lake.
* $4 million for the active transportation, safety, and facility infrastructure improvements at Griffith Park.
* $4 million for the Watts Tower Arts Center Campus Renovation.
* $2.5 million for the Los Angeles StreetCar “Grow the Grid” Program.
* $2.21 million for supporting community-building biodiversity awareness, protection of endangered species, accessibility, and inclusivity.
* $2.1 million for the San Fernando Valley Community Mental Health Center Homeless Street Pilot Program.
* $2 million for the Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator (LACI) to expand workforce development, cleantech innovation pilots, and advance zero emission energy solutions in disadvantaged communities.
* $2 million for the Toluca Lake Beautification Partners to revitalize and enhance additional freeway sites and underpasses with Caltrans District 7.
* $1.9 million for the Chandler Protected Bike Lane Gap Closure project.
* $1.5 million for the Watts Empowerment Center to support the planning, design and renovation of an arts and culture campus.
Thank you to Speaker Anthony Rendon, Senate Pro Tem Toni Atkins, and Governor Gavin Newsom for their leadership and fighting to obtain critical resources for our city and the rest of the state.
I want to also thank our Los Angeles legislative delegation: Assemblymembers Bloom, Bryan, Carrillo, Friedman, Gabriel, Gipson, Jones-Sawyer, McKinnor, Muratsuchi, Nazarian, O’Donnell, Rivas, Santiago, and Valladares and Senators Allen, Bradford, Durazo, Hertzberg, Gonzalez, Kamlager, Portantino, and Stern for securing these investments and many others.
This budget will leave lasting legacies in our communities that will be felt for generations to come.
With hope for the future,
