The Biden administration has a constitutional responsibility to protect our border from invasion–a responsibility that they have refused to carry out. Weekly Newsletter: July 12th, 2022 Demanding an End to the Invasion on Our Border The Biden administration has a constitutional responsibility to protect our border from invasion–a responsibility that they have refused to carry out. Recently, I joined Newsmax to discuss the dangerous and destructive border “enforcement” policies of the Biden administration, which recently resulted in the needless loss of 53 lives in San Antonio. The border is such a disaster that individual counties have been forced to declare the crisis an invasion, including in Goliad. Since Biden was sworn in: Almost 3 million illegal immigrant ‘apprehensions’; 700k+ ‘known gotaways’ (in addition to the undetected gotaways); 50+ known terrorists apprehended at the border; 80,000 US fentanyl deaths; $32 Million per day in criminal cartel income from human trafficking Numbers on border apprehensions clearly show that Trump's Policies, like Remain in Mexico, worked, and it is disheartening to see them undone. In December 2016, for example, Border Patrol apprehended more than 43,250 illegal migrants at the Southwest border, a number that dropped to just over 11,125 apprehensions three months after Trump took office. Last month, we set a record at nearly 240,000 apprehensions. We must enforce the laws on the books and make a return to the Trump-era policies that secured our border only a few short years ago. Defending the Right to Life In the decade leading up to the overturn of Roe v Wade, the left’s views on abortion have shifted from wanting them to be “safe and rare”, to demanding that they be celebrated and that taxpayers are forced to pay for other people’s abortions. This is not where the American people are at — especially as technological developments over the last several decades have unveiled to us the miraculous truth of a pre-born child. As early as 5 weeks, unborn babies in the womb have a heartbeat. By 10 weeks, the child has formed arms, legs, fingers, and toes. At 15 weeks the child has a fully developed heart, facial features, and can even yawn and hiccup. With the recent Dobbs decision by the Supreme Court, the question of abortion is largely a state issue. Some states have moved to limit or ban abortion, but states like California and New York will continue to allow for abortions up until the point of birth and in some cases even after, while also providing subsidies for out-of-state abortion seekers. And in spite of the Hyde Amendment, which prohibits Federal Funds from being used for abortion, the Biden administration has announced it is looking for ways to force taxpayers to subsidize abortions. I will continue to push back against these efforts and stand for Life. Some of the bills that I have co-sponsored in Congress set these boundaries to preserve the life of the unborn. They include: A bill to prohibit federal funds from going to colleges and universities that offer abortions to students and faculty; A bill that would require health care providers to administer care to babies delivered after an attempted abortion; A bill prohibiting states from allowing abortion after 20 weeks; and A bill to prohibit chemical abortions conducted without a health care provider present. You can watch me discuss my Pro-Life stance HERE. Fighting For Ranchers and Farmers I recently signed onto a letter to the Surface Transportation Board (STB) encouraging members of the Board to address recent curtailments of essential agricultural inputs and commodities by rail. A variety of industries, including grain, feed, and fertilizer producers have reported severe rail service issues among most carriers. These problems have hindered production for many producers, making it crucial that rail service is improved to keep the costs of production down for producers. Self-inflicted crises such as this have hurt consumers and producers alike. While the Biden administration continues to blame rising prices on companies, the problem is not as simple as telling companies to lower prices–especially when the costs of production are increasing. We must be fiscally responsible in our approach to a solution. Spending more money and imposing more regulations on industries will not alleviate the problems that we are facing today. In Other News: Ending Endless Wars: I recently introduced an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act to include my bill, H.R. 3129 – the Preventing Endless Armed Conflict and Engagement (PEACE) Act, which would ensure the use of military force correlates with the national interest. If adopted, Congress would have much greater oversight over long term military operations, which would prevent the needless loss of American service members in never ending wars such as the War in Afghanistan, and in the process save trillions of dollars. Protecting the Second Amendment: I signed onto a letter led by Congressman Andy Biggs to investigate the ATF’s possible use of “no tolerance inspections” to shut down law-abiding firearms sellers. If true, this is a flagrant violation of the Second Amendment and must not be allowed to continue. God Bless, Rep. Michael Cloud 27th District, Texas Know someone who would benefit from this update?
