RWJF Renews Funding for Campaign for Action
The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) will continue its support to achieve health equity through nursing with a new three-year grant to the Center to Champion Nursing in America (CCNA), which coordinates the Future of Nursing: Campaign for Action. Both CCNA and the Campaign are initiatives of AARP Foundation, AARP, and RWJF.

Kentucky Nurses Use Theater To Approach Topic of Suicide
The stressors of farming make farmers particularly susceptible to suicide. A nurse in Kentucky met the situation in an unexpected way: Farmer Dinner Theater. The Kentucky Action Coalition’s “Kentucky Partners to the BARN (Bringing Awareness Right Now)” presentations, which feature actors and farmers, help families discuss health issues their communities face. It's funded in part by the Campaign's Nursing Innovations Fund.

Wisc. Training Focuses on Health Equity Needs During Crises
Before the pandemic made the need starkly clear, Wisconsin had “Nurses Respond Now.” The training course, a result of nurses asking for the emergency preparedness information, readies them to understand the needs of vulnerable populations during public health disasters. The continuing education is funded in part by the Campaign’s Nursing Innovations Fund.

Run for Office: New Organization Boosts Nurses
Nurses and midwives “see health in all policy”—that’s just one reason they should run for political office, says Healing Politics, a new nonprofit, nonpartisan organization. Two students who met in nursing school have since launched plans for a program to equip nurses and midwives with the skills to become elected officials.

National Academies Explores Diversity, Racism in Health Education
The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine has since last fall examined education in all health professions in terms of diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism efforts. Now the initials findings from the three workshops—on accreditation, language, and how metrics can be used to promote anti-racism—are summarized and available in interactive format.

The Winners Are In: AARP Challenge Benefits 260 Communities
From 3,200 ideas submitted for ways to make areas more livable for people of all ages, the AARP Community Challenge has funded 260 quick-action projects. Some $3.4 million is being distributed across the country, helping urban, rural, and suburban communities make immediate improvements and jumpstart long-term progress to support residents of all ages.

E4A Open to Applications to Researchers Advancing Racial Equity
Evidence for Action funds grants based on the premise that achieving racial equity is not possible without a focus on the foundational and structural drivers of health. The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation program seeks to fund researchers who will focus on the systems, structures, laws, policies, norms, and practices that give rise to health inequities.

Create a Better Future: RWJF “Pioneers” Grants Available
What dramatic changes might we see in the next five to 15 years? Pioneering Ideas: Exploring the Future to Build a Culture of Health seeks proposals that are primed to influence health equity, in four areas: the future of food; work; social interaction; and evidence. The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation wants to hear from scientists, anthropologists, artists, urban planners, community leaders, and others.

Take a chance on your ideas, says the American Nurses Association in seeking submissions for its 2023 Innovations Award. Awards will be presented to a nurse and to a nurse-led team whose product, program, or practice exemplify nurse-led innovation in patient safety or outcomes. For example: A recent winning idea was for a pop-up clinic. Deadline: November 4.
