This is huge, John. I just watched President Biden sign the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act into law. It's the most comprehensive set of gun violence prevention policies in 30 years, and it will save lives.

I want to thank you, John. You and this team refused to give up. You refused to let Congress off the hook. You compelled action after decades of inaction. You helped pass legislation that will save lives.

Personally, I'm overwhelmed. I can't help but think of my mother who was shot opening the front door of her own home — murdered in a senseless act of gun violence. She was my best friend, and I miss her so much. But because of the action taken today, fewer sons and daughters will lose their parents to gun violence. Fewer moms and dads will have to bury their children because a gun fell into the wrong hands.

But please, take this to heart: This is only the beginning. It's remarkable progress, but there's so much more to do to stop America's senseless gun violence in its tracks. We need an assault weapons ban. We need expanded background checks. Brady — which is led by gun violence survivors like me — is leading the fight to get these policies passed and make sure no other family suffers the pain and loss we have.

We need your grassroots support to seize this momentum and pass more common-sense policies. Please, will you donate $5 or whatever you can spare today to help Brady pass more life-saving legislation? Today, we proved we can make tangible change happen when activists join us in this fight — and we’re just getting started.

From the bottom of my heart — thank you so very much.
