Hello Comrade,
We are all feeling the weight of the world on us these past few weeks. Thank you to our comrades who spoke at City Council last night demanding justice and change in our city. Without all of you, change would be impossible.
As we mourn the loss of Jayland Walker and demand justice we have been met with violent police escalation, empty words from city leaders, and no action on our demands. But we knew this fight would be long. There needs to be time to grieve and mourn with the community just as much as there needs to be time to build power in the streets and in our neighborhoods. Because the revolution will be built on love and solidarity.
Tonight, there will be a unity gathering hosted by the Walker Family, faith leaders, and members of the community at Remedy Church, 1700 Brittain Road. Doors will open at 6:30p.
The family has also invited the community to Jayland's funeral services on Wednesday, July 13th. Services will be from 10:00a to 12:30p and the funeral will be from 1:00p to 2:30p. Some Akron DSA members will be present for the funeral but please feel free to come whenever works for your schedule. There will be an open casket, and we understand that it will be a difficult event.
These weeks have been hard. And the fight for justice is long. But we know that there's no better place to be than together in the struggle.
Solidarity & Justice for all,
Akron DSA
