We all know that Indiana is a national leader in so many things – our top-ranked business climate, our fully-funded infrastructure plan, our balanced budget and more.
But this week, all eyes were once again on Indiana as we continued to trailblaze:
1. Governor Holcomb Hosted the American Workforce Policy Advisory Board in Indiana As Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross says, “every state in the nation has much to learn from Indiana.” And that’s why the American Workforce Policy Advisory Board, created by President Donald Trump and led by Secretary Ross and Special Advisor Ivanka Trump, came to Indiana for their fourth board meeting. They discussed strategies to help more Americans build the skills needed to fill high-wage, 21st-century jobs. Read more about that below.
2. The Indiana GOP Welcomed Our New Director of Diversity Engagement Our party also took a big step this week to develop deeper relationships with more diverse groups of Hoosiers throughout Indiana. We announced a new addition to our team – Whitley Yates, who is our new director of diversity engagement. This is a big move for our party, and Whitley will be a strong voice to help us improve and grow. Learn more about Whitley and her new position here.
3.) Governor Holcomb Endorsed by Indiana Chamber of Commerce As Indiana continues to lead in new and exciting ways, the Indiana Chamber of Commerce made a big announcement: They’re endorsing Governor Holcomb for re-election in 2020! It’s just the second time in the Indiana Chamber’s nearly 100-year history that they’ve endorsed in a gubernatorial race. The Indiana Chamber knows that other states aren’t standing still, and that Governor Holcomb will keep this momentum alive.
Don’t take your eyes off of everything that’s happening here in Indiana – because, under the leadership of Governor Holcomb, we’re not slowing down!

Giving All Hoosiers the Tools to Succeed
It's been a busy week for Governor Holcomb! On Tuesday, the Indiana Chamber of Commerce announced it was endorsing Governor Holcomb for re-election in 2020. Later in the week, Governor Holcomb welcomed Ivanka Trump, Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross and the entire American Workforce Policy Advisory Board to Indiana.
Governor Holcomb has earned the endorsement of the Indiana Chamber of Commerce. This is only the second time in history that the Chamber has endorsed a gubernatorial candidate! Indiana Chamber CEO Kevin Brinegar believes that Governor Holcomb's Next Level Agenda has propelled Indiana forward in many ways and that they both share the common goal of building the best environment for all Hoosiers to succeed.
No trip to Indiana is complete without touring the Indianapolis Motor Speedway! On Wednesday, Governor Holcomb took Ivanka Trump, Secretary Ross and the American Workforce Policy Advisory Board on a tour of the speedway to learn more about the automotive/racing industry and the skilled Hoosiers who help power it!
Yesterday, Governor Holcomb welcomed the American Workforce Policy Advisory Board to the Indiana Women's Prison to learn more about the Last Mile Program. The Last Mile Program helps give inmates the tech and business skills they need to succeed upon re-entry and keep Indiana's recidivism rate low.
Governor Holcomb has worked hard to help lift up opportunities for all Hoosiers, regardless of where they are at in life -- as showcased by his work this week!
Rep. Todd Huston Selected as Indiana Speaker-Elect
The 2020 legislative session will be Indiana Speaker of the House Brian Bosma’s final session, and this week, House Republicans announced their new Speaker-Elect. Rep. Todd Huston will take over as Speaker of the House in 2021!
“During his service in the House, Todd Huston has demonstrated the dedicated, thoughtful and principled leadership needed to serve as speaker,” said Chairman Hupfer. “Brian Bosma leaves behind a historic legacy of accomplishment that will continue with Todd Huston now at the helm. Congrats, Rep. Huston!”
Welcome, Whitley!
We’re excited to announce a new addition to the Indiana Republican Party leadership team -- Whitley Yates, our new director of diversity engagement!
Whitley will be responsible for developing connections with diverse groups across Indiana, including listening to their concerns and building new relationships. Long-term goals include increasing the diversity of party membership, expanding the ranks of minority and women elected officials throughout Indiana, and looking for creative ways to engage future Hoosier leaders of diverse backgrounds to learn more about public service and the Republican Party.
“Making the Indiana Republican Party more diverse has been a top priority for me as chairman from day one. Adding Whitley to our leadership team is an important step toward making the Indiana GOP more diverse and more open to communities that might not have felt a personal connection with our party in the past,” said Chairman Hupfer.
