John,
Last week, the Biden Administration announced its draft plan to expand
offshore drilling in the Gulf of Mexico and off the coast of Alaska.
[ [link removed] ]Biden opens door to more offshore drilling, despite earlier climate vow
This is a colossal step in the wrong direction. It’s a betrayal of
President Biden’s commitment to cut emissions and get the U.S. back on
track for our global climate goals. But here’s the thing: right now, this
is just a draft.
If we join together, we can still make sure the final version has no new
leases.
To do that, we need the White House and the Department of the Interior to
hear our outrage loud and clear. [ [link removed] ]Can you add your name today to our
petition calling on President Biden and Secretary Deb Haaland to scrap
this offshore drilling plan from being implemented?

John, just
last month, President Biden vowed he’d use his executive power to tackle
the climate crisis in the wake of the Supreme Court’s disastrous ruling in
which the court sided with Big Oil over the Environmental Protection
Agency.^1
Allowing new offshore drilling breaks that promise. Even worse, it could
open the door to oil spills and further delay the transition to renewable
energy.
Let’s be clear,
John: If we want to avoid the
most catastrophic impacts of climate change, pursue justice for frontline
communities, and secure energy independence for the American people,
there’s no reality where we can continue new federal fossil fuel leasing
and offshore drilling.
So if he wants to be a climate leader, President Biden must use
presidential power to stop this plan and ban all offshore drilling.^2
[ [link removed] ]If you agree that Biden must take immediate steps to ban offshore
drilling, please add your name to our petition today. The more signatures
we gather, the louder our call for action will be.
Thank you for taking action.
