Letter from Jack Miller, JMC Chairman

From the Jack Miller Center Chairman
Announcing the New JMC President, Hans Zeiger
July 11, 2022

Dear John,

I write to share some great news. With the craziness going on these days, including what our kids are being taught (or not) in school, our board of directors and staff are moving forward with an aggressive strategic plan to reform civic education in our country, from K-12 through college.

Central to our plan is finding the right leader to help us achieve our goals. To that end, I enthusiastically announce that after a comprehensive national search, our board has appointed Hans Zeiger to be the Center’s new President starting August 1st.

Originally from Washington state, Hans has dedicated his career to advancing American ideals and brings with him a breadth of experience from the public, private, and nonprofit sectors.

As a public servant, Hans spent a decade in the Washington State Legislature, where he gained a reputation as a bipartisan collaborator and a champion for civic education reform.

Hans also led the Chapman Center for Citizen Leadership at the Seattle-based Discovery Institute and served as a public affairs officer at the rank of captain in the Washington Air National Guard.

As an author of three books, Hans has written about his neighbors in Puyallup, Washington who bravely fought in World War II as well as about civic responsibilities as citizens of our self-governing nation.

Now as the President of the Jack Miller Center, Hans will continue to embody the passion, determination, and vision of a civic-minded American.

Hans is relocating to the East Coast to work with our staff out of our Philadelphia offices. He will be joined by his wife, Erin, and two young daughters, Clara and Aubrey.

He holds a bachelor’s degree from Hillsdale College, a master’s in public policy from Pepperdine University, and studied American politics at Claremont Graduate University. He even earned the rank of Eagle Scout in his youth.

Most importantly, Hans shares our devotion to the American experiment in self-government, and with it, a commitment to our ambitious vision to fix our country’s crumbling civic education.
We are calling 2022 a transformational year. To reach teachers across our nation, we are tripling our budget by 2026, doubling our staff by 2023, and dramatically increasing our K-12 and higher education programming.
And we are just getting started.

People come to America to pursue their happiness in a country where we are constantly striving to realize that vision in our Declaration of Independence that “All men are created equal” and all are entitled to the same rights.

We invite you to take part in our growing efforts to once again teach our young people about that vision and both our failures and triumphs in achieving it.

It is that shared vision that will bring our nation together again.

As we, at the Jack Miller Center say, “The battle for the soul of our nation will be won or lost in our classrooms.” Your donations, large or small, can help us win that battle.
Yours for a great future,
Jack Miller
Chairman and Founder
