Smokey
Fire Prevention

Despite our wet spring and slower start to hot summer temperatures, we still need to do our part to prevent wildfires. Here are a few tips to help you keep yourself, your family and your state parks safe this fire season:


* Follow all burn bans. 
* Park on asphalt, not on the grass. The heat from the underside of your vehicle can start a fire. 
* Fully extinguish campfires and grills. If it’s too hot to touch, it’s too hot to leave.
* Make sure cigarettes are extinguished completely in water and disposed of appropriately.

Kayak-Boating
Paddle Safe Week

*"July 23 - 29"*

Governor Jay Inslee proclaimed [ [link removed] ] July 23 - 29 as Paddle Safe Week! This is a great opportunity to learn about safety awareness the next time you’re out on the water!

Paddlers should know that kayaks, canoes, and stand-up paddleboards (SUP) are subject to boating laws and regulations. Participants are urged to educate themselves on safety laws and best practices. *The single, most important safety measure to paddle safely is to always wear a life jacket out on the water.*

*"July 24, 2022"*

The Boating Program will be returning to T-Mobile Park on July 24 to ask Mariners game attendees to sign a kayak as a pledge to paddle safely.

Paddlers of all types are invited to take the Washington Safe Boating Pledge at BoatSafeWA.org [ [link removed] ].






*Phone-in buoy registration expands*

Mooring Buoy Stickers

Thanks to a recently expanded pilot program, boaters using mooring buoys can now register and pay their buoy registration fees by phone at 10 marine state parks in the San Juan islands and two on the Skagit islands. The service also continues at Jarrell Cove State Park, where the trial program started last year.

Mooring buoys are available on a first-come-first-served basis, and boaters must be able to call onsite from their vessels to use the new system. Boaters also can go to shore to register and pay.

Create Community and Connection on Public Lands at Sundaes Outside

Sundaes Outside

Summer is in full swing, which means it is time for the summer session of Sundaes Outside: A Celebration of Black Folks! 

Created to acknowledge and celebrate the contributions of Black folks in the outdoors, the Sundaes Outside seasonal event series promises fun, education, and ample opportunities for understanding more about how Black folks and people of color connect around nature.

Join us on July 17, 2022, at Dash Point State Park [ [link removed] ] from 1:30 - 4:30 p.m. for a variety of activities including a Black vendor market, community-led workshops, double Dutch lessons, live art and more.

This event is organized by Golden Bricks Events [ [link removed] ] and sponsored in part by Washington State Parks, The Wilderness Society, and REI among other local and state recreation and conservation organizations.
