A lot of folks think Iowa is a lost cause because we’re a rural state, friend.

But I don’t buy that.

Despite all our challenges, I know that Democrats have a chance because we’re a rural state.

You may have heard from me already, but allow me to introduce myself again. I’m C.J. Petersen, a gay man living in rural Iowa. I am the newly elected chair of the Stonewall Caucus and I’m already getting down to business to make sure our state is a place where everyone in the LGBTQ+ community feels valued.

There’s nothing wrong with rural Iowa that can’t be fixed by what’s right here, friend.

Rural communities thrive around our public schools and Main Streets. The health of our neighbors relies on a clean environment and accessible health care. Our roads and bridges help us not only get to work but also help feed the world.

What I love about living in rural Iowa is that we all want what’s best for each other. We know that we thrive when our neighbors thrive.

That’s why I work so hard to spread the word about the work Iowa Democrats are doing. They’re the only ones in the Iowa Legislature fighting for working Iowans, not corporate donors.

I hope you’ll join me and all of the other Iowa Democrats as we knock on doors, send out postcards, and make phone calls about our incredible slate of candidates. It’ll take all of us to get it done, but I know we’ve got it in us – as long as we show up.

I’ll see you on the ground,
C.J. Petersen
