Friend –
When a wildfire is spreading or a hurricane is headed for land, families are far too often forced to choose between protecting their pets and getting to safety – an impossible, heartbreaking choice.
Right now, federal response efforts for natural disasters ignore animal welfare. Our preparedness and recovery efforts don't include plans for making sure our dogs, cats, birds and other animals are evacuated safely. After a disaster, hundreds of pets and service animals are never reunited with their families.
With climate change increasing the frequency and severity of natural disasters, our pets and service animals are counting on us to fight for them – and Sen. Gary Peters is leading the charge.
The Planning for Animal Wellness (PAW) Act, led by Sen. Peters, would require FEMA to consult with experts and develop a plan to ensure that our pets are safe when disaster strikes. The PAW Act is supported by leading animal welfare organizations and has strong bipartisan support!
But with all the gridlock in Washington, Sen. Peters is counting on strong grassroots support to make sure the PAW Act is passed! That's why we need another 1,500 animal lovers to respond to our LIVE POLL before 11:59 p.m. tonight! So please, if you care about protecting our pets and service animals, respond now to tell the Senate:
