With hot weather ahead, why not get outside and connect with the natural world? But let's not forget – nature needs our help.
Dear John
With a week of hot weather ahead, why not get outside and connect with nature? Temperatures are likely to be very high, so take care – keep hydrated and avoid the hottest times of the day. I’ll definitely be grabbing a hat and staying cool in the shade of some trees while I’m out.
But while we enjoy the outdoors, let’s keep in mind that nature is in trouble. And we need your help to grow the group of people pledging to protect it.
Big thanks to everyone who’s already spread the word that nature needs us. With your help, lots of new friends have joined our action list. But there’s more to do to reach as many people as possible.
To help grow this group of nature-lovers even further, we’ve created a Notice Nature pack ([link removed]) – an activity guide full of wildlife facts, tips and ideas to appreciate and value nature in the everyday.
Do you have a minute to share the pack and help encourage even more people to stand up for nature?

Thanks so much for your help so far. For more information on our campaign to bring people together to stand up for nature, I’ve included my original email below.

Dear John
The Office for Environmental Protection has warned that the UK is rapidly approaching nature’s tipping points [1]. Gradual decline could soon turn catastrophic – leaving us with dead rivers, vanishing wildlife and collapsing fisheries.
Friends of the Earth has a proud track record of protecting nature. From winning a ban on bee-harming pesticides to tackling plastic pollution, thousands of us regularly stand up for the natural world – and win.
But with such dire warnings, nature urgently needs more friends like you. Today, on World Environment Day, do you have 2 minutes to help?
We want to grow the number of people that we can call on to take action when the natural world is in peril. And as a keen action-taker we hope you can help out by introducing us to some new nature-loving friends.
So if you know any nature-lovers, please ask them to sign up to hear from us with ways to take action when nature needs our help. The more people we can help to look after the natural world, the more powerful our voices will be.

As its World Environment Day, now’s the perfect time to contact your friends and ask them to join you in supporting our campaigns for nature.
We’re a nation of nature-lovers so there’s huge potential to grow the number of people ready to stand up for nature.
Together we’ll be even more powerful.
Best wishes,
Aleanna Shaughnessy,
