Levy Campaign Files FOIA Request After Signs Point to Klarides Campaign Misusing Taxpayer Dollars FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: July 12, 2022 CONTACT: [email protected] Levy Campaign Files Freedom of Information Request Today After Signs Point to Klarides Campaign Misusing Taxpayer Dollars Greenwich, CT – Today, Republican U.S. Senate candidate Leora Levy’s campaign filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Request. This comes after the Levy campaign obtained a copy of a scurrilous political attack being circulated by the Klarides campaign over the weekend, the metadata of which indicates that the document itself originated with a Connecticut Government official. Levy spoke to the public about it yesterday, calling for an investigation on the Lee Elci Show (1:38:00). When Elci asked Klarides about the letter on Monday, she brushed it off and has not taken action since to publicly investigate the matter. The Levy campaign sent the FOIA request to the office of Jim Tamburro, Executive Director of the Office of Legislative Management at the Connecticut General Assembly. It requests all emails to and from government official, Brian Werstler, also cited in news articles as a spokesman for the Klarides campaign, containing either the words “Themis” or "TK," dating from January 7, 2021, through the present day. Statement from Leora Levy on the FOIA request: Yesterday, I called for a full investigation into whether taxpayers have had to pay for the time and resources used by high-ranking State Government officials inappropriately doing campaign work for the Klarides campaign on the public dime. The metadata points that way, and voters deserve to know. In the name of transparency and ethical government, my campaign requested information from the Connecticut Assembly on this high-ranking official to uncover any misuse of taxpayer resources and time on scurrilous campaign attacks.
