Have you heard of Steve Dettebach? 

If you haven’t, that’s the way the NRA wants it — so they can successfully keep gun violence prevention activists like you from rallying behind him. 

Steve Dettelbach is President Biden’s nominee for director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the federal agency that oversees the gun industry. But thanks to the NRA’s lobbying, ATF has been severely under-resourced and without a permanent director for years now. 

That isn’t just irresponsible; it’s deadly. We can’t let the gun industry go unchecked — especially not as rates of gun violence and hate crimes soar across the country, leaving families and communities devastated.

With violent crime increasing across America, it is imperative that we have a strong leader at the ATF to ensure gun laws are enforced. So please, John, will you call your senators now and urge them to vote to confirm Steven Dettelbach? He is a trusted leader with decades of law enforcement experience.

Dettelbach is extremely qualified. He served as a federal attorney and worked for over 20 years as a prosecutor in the U.S. Justice Department, prosecuting hate crimes and more. His nomination is supported by law enforcement groups, former ATF directors, former Department of Justice officials, gun violence survivors, and more. 

Especially on the heels of the tragic mass shootings in Buffalo, Uvalde, and Highland Park, we need an ATF leader now. We can’t let the gun lobby continue to block this role so that they can reap profits from their unchecked power. Please, John, call your senators now.
