ShutDownDC offering $200 bounty for intel on SCOTUS justices - ShutdownDC’s reprehensible bounty on the location of members of the U.S. Supreme Court is an attempt to facilitate the harassment and intimidation of those justices and their families. This may be a criminal violation of 19 U.S.C. §1503, as a threatening communication that is intended to “influence, intimidate, or impede” a judge or “the due administration of justice.” This reckless action also endangers the lives and safety of the justices, potentially making them targets of possible assaults, kidnappings, and assassinations. ShutdownDC clearly has the intent to retaliate against these justices for the performance of their official duties and they should be harshly condemned and, if appropriate, prosecuted. Grading the SCOTUS: Originalism Rules, and That’s a Good Thing - The three words that best describe the Supreme Court’s decisions this term are text, history and tradition. If that’s one word too many, try this: Originalism Rules! And that’s a good thing. The court considered several important constitutional cases this term. The split in most of these cases was six-to-three, with the “conservative” justices in the majority and the “liberal” justices in dissent. Heritage Expert: John Malcolm

Foreign Policy: Strategy for a Post-Biden Era - The war in Ukraine and other recent events have shown the true colors of China, Iran, and Russia. These dangerous regimes want a world without America and have the capability and intent to unsettle the peace of America’s homeland. Their aggressive actions threaten America’s freedom and prosperity and put American lives at risk. It is that stark. The United States is in a new kind of war. To Deter China, the U.S. Navy Must Build a Connected Fleet at a Faster Pace – The Navy is at a turning point about which type of fleet it will deploy, and the course it takes will determine the role of U.S. naval power well into the future. The Navy’s future course will largely be driven by Chinese and Russian long-range weapons, requiring the fleet to be more dispersed, yet highly integrated. A dispersed yet integrated fleet requires disaggregating capabilities across more platforms, and size, energy, and endurance requirements will drive a persistent need for larger manned warships. Getting the balance right between large and smaller warships is critical, but so, too, are ship designs that can be fabricated in new shipyards, and more quickly than before—for which unmanned warships are promising. Biden Calls Pro-Life Agenda ‘Extremist’ While Rolling Out Executive Order on Abortion - President Joe Biden signed an executive order Friday promoting abortion. “This is a moment, the moment, a moment to restore the rights that have been taken away from us and the moment to protect our nation from an extremist agenda,” Biden said, repeating himself as he spoke to the nation from the White House. The president’s executive order, called “Protecting Access to Reproductive Healthcare Services,” states that abortion is a private decision and “should not be subject to government interference.” Heritage Expert: Virginia Allen

Killing of Former Prime Minister Shocks Japan, but Shinzo Abe’s Legacy Lives On - Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was fatally shot Friday at a campaign rally ahead of Japan’s elections Sunday for the upper house of its parliament. The event has shocked Japan, which has extremely tight gun control laws and one of the world’s lowest rates of gun violence. Abe, who was 67, was a towering political figure in Japan and remained highly influential after leaving the prime ministership in 2020. Japan maintained Abe’s pragmatic foreign and security policies and will remain a stalwart U.S. ally in addressing the Chinese and North Korean threats. Heritage Expert: Bruce Klingner
