With the holidays just around the corner, the President has demonstrated his complete lack of empathy or compassion by announcing massive cuts to the SNAP program (more commonly known as food stamps).
Come April, hundreds of thousands of Iowans and millions of Americans who rely on those benefits will be faced with the prospect of going hungry.
Now, as Iowans who rely on SNAP face food insecurity come next year, the question must be asked: Where does Sen. Joni Ernst stand on this critical issue?
Unsurprisingly, she stands with Trump. In fact, Joni proposed the privatization of SNAP, threatening both the program’s integrity and the jobs of Americans who work for the program.
She’ll never fight to protect the vulnerable among us who will suffer the most from these cuts. Unfortunately, the ghosts of Christmas Past probably won't be coming for this miserly scrooge, so it’s up to us to stand up for the needy and make their voices heard in 2020.
As your Senator, I will fight to make sure no one falls through the cracks in the system—cracks created by cuts to critical programs like SNAP.
If we don’t act together now, this lose-lose situation will literally take food off the tables of some of our most vulnerable citizens. Will you stand with us in protecting them instead?
