John,
The governor of the state that is the 9th largest economy on earth — the energy capital of the world — can’t guarantee the power will stay on this week.
As Texans deal with a heat wave, our state’s power grid operator is once again calling on people to reduce their electricity use — and turn their AC down — because it’s the only way to avoid another grid collapse on Abbott’s watch.
A dangerously unreliable power grid has become a feature of daily life under Abbott. When it’s cold and when it’s hot, families are left crossing their fingers and hoping the grid holds up. After all, we know what happened last time it failed: millions were left without power and hundreds of our fellow Texans died.
John, last year’s deadly grid failure wasn’t an act of God, nor the incredible force of Mother Nature. It wasn’t a failure of turbines or technicians.
It was wholly the fault of the governor, the man who had been repeatedly warned of vulnerabilities in the grid and who did nothing. The man who, instead of being with Texans in their moment of need, was on Fox News blaming the Green New Deal.
Worst of all, in the aftermath of the failure, when Abbott could have finally fixed the grid and protected us during the next extreme weather event, he sided with his major political donors who profited from the energy blackouts — and did nothing meaningful to prevent another grid failure.
It comes down to this, John. The grid will keep failing us until we fix it. And Abbott will keep failing us until we defeat him
Our campaign is putting in the work every day to defeat Abbott in November. Beto is about to launch a 5,600+ mile statewide Drive for Texas to meet folks in over 75 communities and hold Abbott accountable for his failures. But everything we plan to do — travel, hosting events, knocking doors, and hiring staff — is 100% funded by supporters like you.
If you can, donate now to help us fire Greg Abbott. Every dollar counts.
Let’s unite around a brighter future for Texas where we finally fix the grid, bring utility costs down, and keep the lights on so a deadly grid crisis never happens again.
In solidarity,
Beto for Texas
