President Biden will visit Israel this week for the first time as president.
This trip comes one year after the Gaza war, during which the administration and the overwhelming majority of Congress stood steadfastly behind Israel's right to defend itself.
But their pro-Israel resolve was met with outspoken opposition from a vocal anti-Israel wing in Congress.
During the war, some on the far-left leveled outrageous anti-Israel charges against our ally, calling the Jewish state "racist" and even justifying Hamas' rocket attacks. Later that fall, nine House members opposed replenishing Iron Dome.
Over the past several months, we have implemented a new political strategy to ensure our friends who stand with Israel have our support, and that those who seek to undermine the U.S.-Israel relationship know it's not just bad policy, but bad politics as well.
So far in this election cycle, we have supported 329 pro-Israel friends—Democrats and Republicans—and we have helped defeat nine anti-Israel candidates, including future members of the Squad, in elections across the country.
Next Tuesday, voters in a Maryland district just outside Washington, D.C., will choose between pro-Israel candidate Glenn Ivey and anti-Israel former member of Congress Donna Edwards.
AIPAC members and the AIPAC-backed super PAC United Democracy Project have directly engaged in this race to help Glenn Ivey and defeat Donna Edwards. We will not be passive as those seeking to erode the U.S.-Israel partnership try to gain power.
This is just the latest fight in a long-term political battle to keep Congress pro-Israel.
Our ability to advance policies that help keep Israel safe and America strong will be determined by our ability to keep Congress pro-Israel.
I look forward to providing further updates on this race, and several others transpiring over the coming weeks and months.
Sincerely,
Philip Friedman
AIPAC General Counsel and Director of Political Operations

"All of Israel, and in particular Jerusalem, is getting ready for this hugely important visit. We're talking over 200 journalists from across the world covering the event from here... And here at the President's residence, there are also preparations well under way... We're looking at dozens of American and Israeli flags that have been ironed and that are being hung; we're looking at the red carpet being rolled out."

"The signatories of this pact will have a much clearer and much more early warning system that an attack [from Iran] is on the way...The Saudis are taking steps towards improving relations with Israel because of Iran's aggressive actions," says Meir Javedanfar.
The mission of AIPAC is to encourage and persuade the U.S. government to enact specific policies that create a strong, enduring and mutually beneficial relationship with our ally Israel.
