The coordinated attack on abortion access in America is a public health crisis and we must use every federal tool available to confront it.
On Friday, President Biden heeded our calls to take executive action to expand access to medication abortion and protect those seeking care from criminalization.
Our movement has been calling for these measures, which will help many access the safe and legal abortion care they need and deserve — but we cannot stop here.
That’s why I’m urging President Biden to build on this first step by declaring a public health emergency to unlock critical flexibilities and resources to address this public health crisis.
This is a matter of life and death.
Daily, I am hearing from patients, providers, and advocates about the dire situations facing people seeking abortion across the country.
In this moment, we must use our collective voice and power to keep up the pressure and make it clear that abortion care is a fundamental human right.
Please join me in demanding President Biden call this what it is — a public health emergency.
Our work continues and I am not letting up.
In solidarity,
Ayanna Pressley
