I don’t know about you, team, but I’m over it.

Over and over again, my fellow House Democrats and I have passed significant legislation addressing the most pressing issues facing everyday Americans: codifying civil rights, curbing inflation, defending our democracy, and so much more. But almost every time, it doesn’t become the law—because it dies in the Senate. Thanks to the filibuster.

The filibuster is a silver bullet for Mitch McConnell and MAGA Republicans to shoot down any and all bills they don’t like that do not have supermajority support. The filibuster is fundamentally undemocratic, is NOT a part of our constitution, and it is the single greatest obstacle to all the progress we badly need in this country. It must be abolished.

I’m damn sick and tired of Senate Democrats obstructing our party’s entire agenda by refusing to abolish or reform the filibuster. So we need to expand our majority in the Senate with Democrats that will abolish or reform it. What kind of democracy do we live in where the minority party that represents 40 million fewer Americans than the majority party gets to automatically stop the passage of any bill they want, even when it receives a simple majority of votes? That’s not a healthy democracy, that’s a damn joke.

There are many reasons why the American people’s trust in Congress is so low, and the filibuster is chief among them. The filibuster is why abortion rights and marriage equality are not codified, it is why inflation is out of control, it is why voting rights have not been protected…the list goes on. So we must put an end to it.
