This video made the rounds on Twitter about a month ago, but I keep coming back to it again and again so I wanted to take a few minutes to share a few thoughts.
First: If you haven’t seen the whole video, you should watch it. In just a few short minutes, Michigan State Senator Mallory McMorrow absolutely DEMOLISHES the entire bigoted agenda of today’s Republican Party.
I’m sick and tired of Democrats running away from the culture wars. We need to elect people who aren’t afraid to stand up, look the Republicans in the eye, and tell them we’re not buying their $#*% ANYMORE!
No, we’re not trying to “groom” your children. We are trying to keep kids alive. Study upon study shows that the LGBTQ+ community — specifically trans folks — are at a much higher risk of suicide due to anti-queer attacks. Anti-trans legislation and Florida’s new “Don’t Say Gay” law hurt our kids.
No, we’re not trying to “indoctrinate” your kids with “woke-ism.” Rather, we’re trying to acknowledge how white supremacy and racism have and continue to impact our nation. If we hope to make headway on racial justice in this country, we must have leaders unafraid to address its root causes and propose real solutions.
No, we don’t want to “take over” your kid's education. We want to make sure schools are fully funded, teachers are paid what they deserve, and that books aren’t banned!
Democrats can’t keep running from the culture wars. We’re the party of family values. We’re the party that cares about kids. We’re the party that gives a damn about righting historical wrongs.
But my opponents have dove headfirst into the culture wars. They've accused Disney of being “perverted by a woke mob of liberal extremists” who are using our kids as “guinea pigs” and support banning textbooks in our schools.
We can’t empower more far-right folks who will use “culture war” issues as cheap tactics to win elections. So, I’m asking for your support.
