Recently, we experienced more senseless gun violence that could have been prevented. We are mourning those who were killed and wounded in the Highland Park shooting, as well as the many others affected by gun violence over the holiday weekend. Senseless gun violence has defiled the very freedom and security which the 4th of July is meant to celebrate. Families have been torn apart and a community has been left to pick up the pieces after this devastating event.

We cannot wait on this issue, it is imperative we stop this epidemic before another senseless mass shooting happens. I support gun legislation to end the increase of military style weapons and easy access to firearms. We must resolve to take action, as the avalanche of guns is defiling the very freedom and security that the 4th of July is meant to represent.

It’s up to each and every one of us to come together and renew our commitment to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness for all.
