Great news! You still have time to send your comments to ask the Environmental Protection Agency to veto the destructive Pebble Mine project.

The project would irreversibly damage Alaska’s Bristol Bay, threatening 27 globally significant Important Bird Areas and two sites recognized by the Western Hemispheric Shorebird Reserve Network. More than 190 bird species rely on Bristol Bay’s richly productive waters. Tufted Puffins, Tundra Swans, Short-tailed Shearwaters, Marbled Godwits, and others congregate here in the tens of millions to forage and nest.

Urge the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to veto the environmentally destructive Pebble Mine. The comment deadline has been extended to September 6.

Pebble Mine would be the largest open-pit mine in North America and would require the world’s largest earthen dam to be built to hold back billions of tons of wastewater. A failure would wash toxic wastewater through rivers and streams, compromising the food web that forms the foundation of Bristol Bay's incredible bird life and aquatic ecosystem.

For decades, tribal governments, local residents and businesses, hunters and anglers, conservationists, and elected officials have been united. They ALL agree that endangering Bristol Bay—one of the greatest salmon producing and bird nesting regions on our planet—is a disaster waiting to happen. A massive open-pit mine at Bristol Bay's headwaters poses an enormous risk to the beautiful and bountiful habitat, the local economy, and 15,000 good-paying American jobs.  
 
The Army Corps of Engineers denied the first major permit needed, and although this was a step forward, we now need the EPA to veto the entire permit. This action would provide more lasting protections and be more difficult to reverse. We only have until July 5th for as many people as possible to support this veto.

The Pebble Mine project threatens an entire irreplaceable watershed and would adversely affect local communities and globally important wildlife habitat. It should NEVER happen. We must conserve this incredible resource for future generations to come. Tell the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to veto the Pebble Mine project.
