Team,

A bill that Mark authored passed the Senate unanimously on Thursday. Now it’s onto the House, and we need your help to get it to President Biden’s desk.

It’s a bill to help people who have been left responsible for their former spouse’s student loan debt through loan consolidation. If it becomes law, it will immediately help thousands of people who face a unique form of abuse after their marriage ends.

Sign our petition now urging the House to take up and pass Mark’s joint consolidation student loan relief legislation. [link removed]

In the 1990s, you could consolidate your student loan debt if you got married. But there was no mechanism for unwinding the consolidation if the marriage ended — even in circumstances of abuse.

The rule was rolled back in 2006, but only on an ongoing basis. Mark’s bill would provide release to people who consolidated their debt prior to 2006 — more than 14,000 people whose financial wellbeing and financial futures are tied to people they are no longer married to.

The bill passed the Senate unanimously. We just need the House to prioritize passage so it can become law. Sign our petition today. [link removed]

Thank you,

Team Warner
