It took 30 years to get here – a White House celebration for a new life-saving gun safety law . Today, I was surrounded by hundreds of advocates, survivors, legislative champions, and President Biden celebrating the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act .

I’m here because of you… for you. Friend, you’ve stood with CeaseFirePA as we’ve fought to expand background check legislation and implement tools to prevent the next Highland Park or Uvalde. You used your voice to create policies to support domestic violence survivors and their families. You wrote emails, made phone calls, and gathered at rallies and town halls. Together, we’ve fought for a world where we can live free from gun violence.

This time is different, and not only because we won this time (we did!). I’ve heard from hundreds of new volunteers, parents, and community leaders who know this is only one step on a long road towards a safer Pennsylvania. Hours before I left for DC, my conservative, gun-owning aunt told me “this bill is a small step forward… we need to do more.”

She is right. And together, we’re going to take the next step soon.
