I’m the proud son of immigrants from the Dominican Republic and a Pell Grant kid. I wouldn’t be where I am today if not for those before me who fought for racial and economic justice – and I’ve made it my life’s mission to continue fighting for these ideals.

That’s why I’m running to become Maryland’s next governor.

I helped put myself through college by working on the back of a trash truck, umpiring baseball games, working at a warehouse, and more. I know the value of hard work. We need to build a Maryland where if you work hard, you are able to succeed and where zip code never determines destiny.

I’ll fight for Maryland communities and families. For good jobs, affordable health care, racial equity, and quality public education – just like I’ve done throughout my career.

Maryland needs a Democratic governor who delivers results, not just rhetoric. And delivering results is what I’ve done throughout my career in public service.

From breaking barriers on the Montgomery County Council to serving as President Obama’s Labor Secretary, I've fought for jobs, justice, and opportunity.

As an attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division, I prosecuted some of the country’s most high-profile civil rights cases. Under President Obama, I fought against discrimination by protecting voting rights, taking on systemic discrimination by police departments, protecting students from bullying and harassment based on their race, gender, and sexual orientation, and fought against employment discrimination.

I like to say I’m from the “GSD” wing of the Democratic Party — I want to “get stuff done.” My record proves it. But on far too many issues, we’re punching below our weight as a state.

We have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to flip the Governor’s office blue — and build a Maryland where everyone can realize their full potential. It's going to take bold, tested, and trusted leadership to make it happen.
