Reflecting on where we’ve been, and where we can go
Friends, in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the historic Apollo 11 space mission this past Saturday, I would like to talk about the space renaissance that is on the horizon.
As a member of the Committee on Science, Space, and Technology (and a self-proclaimed space geek), I’ve seen the amazing possibilities of our space programs. We must strengthen Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) education across the country to prepare the next generation of American astronauts and rocket scientists.

The 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission is an important reminder of what Americans can achieve when we set our sights high and work together. Today, we are on the verge of returning astronauts to the moon, unlocking space resource technologies, creating a deep-space station orbiting the moon, and even the first human space flight to Mars.
Fostering a pipeline of young scientists, engineers, and dreamers who will create that future is critical — and STEM education is our first step toward these ambitious goals.
