Tell Congress: Act now for economic and climate justice

Dear John,

Today people across the U.S. face soaring costs of housing, groceries, and other goods. Many were already struggling to make ends meet and still recovering from the devastating impacts of the pandemic.

Our elected officials must act now to provide immediate relief—and improve the health and lives of all people in the U.S. Urge Congress to pass an economic package that helps people through these times! [link removed]

For months, elected officials have failed to pass a budget reconciliation bill that would invest in U.S. families and workers, expand access to health care, and respond to climate change. As negotiations stalled, countless people have lost out. In January, Congress let the expanded child tax credit expire, ending much-needed assistance for millions of families. Millions more people could see their health insurance premiums rise if Congress fails to preserve subsidies through the Affordable Care Act.

The White House and congressional leaders are finalizing a compromise to win the support of West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin, a key vote in passing this legislation. The compromise would lower prescription drug prices, raise taxes on corporations and high-income earners, and use the resulting resources to address the deficit and inflation and provide clean energy tax incentives.

These are vital priorities. At the same time, we must keep urging Congress to meet the needs of people and families across the country.

Today our elected officials have an opportunity to advance bold, long-term solutions to provide communities with the resources they need to thrive.

Tell Congress: Pass a reconciliation bill that restores the expanded child tax credit, invests in affordable housing, keeps health care affordable, and takes concrete steps to address climate change. [link removed]
