Open Borders Cost Lives. Biden Doesn’t Care

gas prices.jpeg

In the news: Authorities found 46 people dead in a tractor-trailer in San Antonio on June 27, a number that later rose to 53. The deceased were illegal immigrants who had recently crossed the U.S.-Mexico border.

Why it matters: Under the Biden administration’s policies, more illegal activity is occurring at the border and more migrants than ever are dying, says senior research associate Erin Dwinell. Read more about this ongoing tragedy here.

Biden’s Big Lie: Heritage visiting fellow Tom Homan, former acting director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, has witnessed death and devastation like this firsthand. He says “For months, the Biden administration has lied to the American people about creating a ‘moral and humane’ immigration system. How is any of this humane?” Read his commentary here.

5 Monumental Supreme Court Cases This Term

One for the history books: The Supreme Court just finished what will likely go down as one of its most momentous terms, handing conservatives multiple victories beyond the stunning decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.

Breaking it down: Heritage experts put together a summary of each of the five most important cases, which touch on issues ranging from Second Amendment rights to school choice and religious liberty. Find out what the five cases are here.

Also: Heritage Executive Vice President Derrick Morgan explains why the court’s ruling on one of these cases—West Virginia v. EPA—is so important to our freedoms. Read about it here.

Pension Bailout Helps Biden’s Union Cronies, Not Workers

What’s new: President Joe Biden announced Wednesday the details of a new taxpayer-funded, multi-billion-dollar bailout of chronically mismanaged and underfunded private-union pensions.

Our take: “Rewarding what should be criminal behavior on the part of unions and employers is not ‘protecting’ workers—it's robbing them to protect unions that empower liberal politicians,” writes Rachel Greszler, a Heritage senior research fellow. Read about the bailout here.

ALWAYS ON OFFENSE

Why Is the Biden Admin. Snooping on Americans’ Social Media Posts? Heritage Lawsuit Aims to Find Out

classroom202.jpeg

The latest: Heritage’s Oversight Project filed suit demanding that the Department of Homeland Security release information about how and why it is targeting Americans’ social media posts.

Our take: “DHS should have to explain what it is paying Babel Street—with American taxpayer dollars—to do with its massive data collection operation, and more importantly, what is it planning to do with that personal, private data,” said Mike Howell, director of the Oversight Project.

Why this matters: “The Department of Homeland Security has completely abused its authority to come up with outrageous intelligence assessments since Biden took office,” Howell said.

New appointee: Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin named Lindsey Burke, director of Heritage’s Center for Education Policy and the Mark A. Kolokotrones fellow in education, to George Mason University’s board of visitors. She was one of several education appointments announced by Youngkin.

Innovator: “I have tasked these innovators to bring their expertise as parents, industry leaders, educators, and policymakers to ensure our classrooms and our campuses prepare students for success in life,” Youngkin said.

President Biden calls sky-high inflation “the Putin tax increase,” but Agenda readers are more willing to blame space aliens than Putin. The vast majority blame Biden’s overspending. Here are the results of our last reader poll.
