This year, I went through a divorce which impacted my immigration status and health care coverage. I didn’t know where to turn. The organizations I looked to for legal assistance had long waiting lists and I had no money to see a lawyer. Then, I heard about the legal clinic at The Center, so I came in and spoke to an immigration lawyer for free—which was incredible! The next day, they took my case.

At the same time, I was also freaking out about not having health care coverage, so I connected with one of the patient navigators at The Center. My navigator broke down the insurance enrollment process step-by-step. It was a very tailored experience and it would have been overwhelming to try and do this myself. The Center took the stress out of a situation that, otherwise, I don’t think I could have handled on my own.

Coming to The Center was vital and made the difference of me staying in New York. I feel there is light at the end of the tunnel.
