CNN reports, "Sen. Elizabeth Warren called on Pete Buttigieg to open up his private fundraisers to reporters and reveal the clients he worked with during his time at McKinsey, the management consulting firm."
Here's more of what Warren said in a press gaggle with reporters:
I think that voters want to know about possible conflicts of interest...
Mayor Pete should open up the doors so that anyone can come in and report on what's being said...No one should be left to wonder what kind of promises are being made to the people who can pony up big bucks.
The mayor should be releasing who's on his finance committee, who are the bundlers who are raising big money for him, who he's given titles to and made promises to.
We face a time in America where people are deeply concerned about corruption. They are deeply concerned about a government that works better and better for the wealthy and well connected and worse and worse for everyone else. They have a right to have this information about anyone who asks for their vote for president.
Amen. Can you share on Twitter? I agree with @ewarren: @PeteButtigieg should open up his big-money fundraisers to media so we know what promises are made to people that pony up big bucks. I also agree with @NYTimesOpinion: Pete must reveal his corporate clients at McKinsey. Stop hiding info like Trump does.
And here's what the New York Times Editorial Board said in their op-ed that rocked the political world:
Mr. Buttigieg has said precious little about his time at McKinsey. He has not named the clients for whom he worked, nor said much about what he did...
This is not a tenable situation. Mr. Buttigieg owes voters a more complete account of his time at the company. Voters seeking an alternative to Mr. Trump should demand that candidates not only reject Mr. Trump’s positions, but also his behavior...
In some more recent interviews, Mr. Buttigieg has sought to play down his McKinsey years, telling one reporter, “It’s not something that I think is essential in my story.” But that is inconsistent with the manner in which Mr. Buttigieg has chosen to present himself to voters, as a candidate with roots in the private sector. Those three years at McKinsey represent Mr. Buttigieg’s only substantial claim on such experience...
Working at McKinsey is not quite the résumé booster it used to be. The Times reported this week that the consulting firm has advised the Trump administration on the logistics of its cruel crackdown on immigration. McKinsey also has offered its services as a consultant to brutal and corrupt governments and state-owned enterprises in other countries, including China, Russia and Saudi Arabia.
Mr. Buttigieg has criticized the company, and cast the troubles as largely postdating his tenure...But that’s an incomplete answer.
Mr. Buttigieg needs to explain what he did at McKinsey.
