Dear John,

Protect the "Magna Carta of environmental law" from Trump's attacks!

The Trump Administration is attacking our bedrock environment laws at every turn. First it was pesticide protections. Then it was the Tongass Roadless Rules. Now, it’s the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).

NEPA is essentially the “Magna Carta of environmental law.” It requires the government to request public input into projects, seek less harmful alternatives, and minimize the impact on our communities and the environment.

But Trump’s Forest Service recently unveiled plans to undermine NEPA, opening the door for large-scale logging and clear-cutting in our National Forests. Together we can block Trump’s attack. But we need your help!

Protect our National Forests: Tell Trump’s Forest Service not to gut the “magna carta of environmental law”!

With climate chaos looming, we must strengthen environmental protection legislation, and further protect our precious public lands and wild places. Unfortunately, the Forest Service’s proposed changes would do the exact opposite.

The plan threatens places like Malheur National Forest in Oregon, the Bitterroot National Forest in Montana, and the Nantahala and Pisgah National Forests in North Carolina. The timber industry would love to get on its hands on these places -- and changing NEPA would eliminate local communities’ ability to have input into that process.

NEPA protections helped stop poorly thought-out and polluting projects across the country -- from drilling on our public lands to the construction of industrial facilities that poison our communities. We still need these protections to stop Big Timber from clear-cutting our National Forests. We can’t let the Forest Service gut these protections now.

Protect our forests: Stop Trump’s Forest Service from gutting National Environmental Policy Act forest protections!

The Trump Administration plan is nothing but a corporate giveaway justified with a lie. The administration claims the proposed changes are about “assisting” federal agencies, but that is just a misleading way of saying they want to make it easier to approve dangerous projects in favor of letting the industry do whatever it wants.

Big Polluters and interest groups like the far-right Heritage Foundation have long dreamed of gutting NEPA. So our opposition is strong, but our movement is stronger!

Together we can prevent one of the boldest attacks on not only our environment, but also on your voice in our government’s decisions, John. But we must act fast!

Help send 30,000 comments: Tell the Forest Service to uphold NEPA protections!
