One of the reasons I’m sending you this email is that no one else has done anything like this yet. And you made us realize the urgency of building this movement now.
You’ve heard that the biggest threat to democracy isn’t Trump or rigged elections or radical Republicans changing every law they can think of.
No, the biggest threat to our democracy and the American republic is that too many people are giving up. Checking out. Letting Trump and his MAGA mob get away with their conspiracy to end democracy.
You know it and I know it.
You heard the other day that there are more than 50,000 of us right now. I think we both know there need to be more of us. We have to keep growing this movement.
When we started organizing for Howard Dean, there were something like 50 people that read our first email. We eventually grew to over 600,000. Not through trading your email or buying your name. Because that 50 reached out to one person each. It became 87 people. Then the same thing happened the next week and the week after that.
They knew they had the power to grow the movement and make change. That’s the single biggest lesson I’ve learned in the past two decades. And now it’s up to us.
You are about to redefine what political organizing can be, Friend.
Together, we are going to build the largest pro-democracy coalition this country has ever seen. We are going to build the tools to bring in our neighbors, to amplify our voice, to organize for democracy against the Trumpists, to defeat them in races from the Senate to the City Council.
We are going to create a unified voice, millions strong, who shout in unison that authoritarianism has no place in the greatest democracy the world has ever seen.
Please take a minute and ask one more person to join the Union. It can be a friend, a neighbor, a family member – someone who you know is frustrated that “the usual” isn’t enough. Who do you know who is willing to give an hour to join with a few thousand Union members online and fight back against the latest Fox news conspiracy? Or an hour to text voters in Texas reminding them how important the Governor’s race is this year? Ask them to join us.

I will check in soon and tell you just how many people joined us. We aren’t running any paid acquisition campaigns right now. We aren’t buying lists. The Union is only growing if you and I and everyone reading this takes this one action today.
The power lies with you. This is not the last time you’ll hear me say that.
